    How to take one

    1. Open the tin Take one out with dry hands. The film picks up moisture.
    2. Place it on your tongue Put it on your tongue and close your mouth.
    3. Let it dissolve Gone in under a minute. No water, nothing to swallow.

    What is on the label

Lion's mane, maitake, cordyceps and shiitake, at thirty, twenty-five, twenty-five and twenty milligrams. Four names, four numbers, no blend.

The chocolate is doing a job here. Mushroom extract does not taste like this on its own, and we would rather say that than pretend otherwise.

    The long version

The third hour of the same task is the moment this tin is for. It is also, reliably, the moment when getting up to find a glass of water is more than anyone is prepared to do.

Four mushrooms, four numbers: thirty, twenty-five, twenty-five and twenty milligrams. The chocolate around them is not decoration. Mushroom extract on its own does not taste like anything a person would choose to put in their mouth, and saying so seems better than pretending.

Two things we cannot close, and we would rather they were in here than nowhere. These are fruiting body extracts, and we print that without a percentage in front of it, because the percentage would be a claim and we do not have one in writing. And the cordyceps: the printed label names one species of it and the batch certificate names another, so our panel prints the genus and nothing after it. The lab table further on reports the species the laboratory assayed, because a measurement belongs to the thing that was measured.

    • Lion's Mane 30 mg

A shaggy white mushroom, sold dried far more often than fresh.

    • Maitake 25 mg

Hen-of-the-woods, if you have met it at a market.

    • Cordyceps 25 mg

A fungus. One other tin here is built around a cordyceps too, at fifty milligrams rather than twenty-five, and not necessarily the same species.

    • Shiitake 20 mg

The kitchen mushroom, dried and extracted.

    What a batch certificate is

A certificate of analysis is a laboratory's report on one batch: what the label claims, what was measured, and the range it had to fall inside. It covers that batch and no other, which is why the lot code matters. We publish the numbers, not the certificate. The issuer forbids partial reproduction. The disintegration row is one of those laboratory measurements, taken against the specification the certificate states. It is not a reading taken in anyone's mouth: what a strip does on a tongue is the separate thing, and that is the one we describe as about 30 seconds.

Lot KJ112501, tested by the manufacturer's laboratory. Every active measured between 100.9% and 105.3% of its label claim, inside a stated band of 90.0% to 110.0%. The certificate identifies the cordyceps as Cordyceps militaris.

One strip held between two fingers, about to be placed on the tongue.

Here the alternative is a coffee you stir or a capsule you swallow whole. FDA's guidance to industry puts trouble swallowing a tablet or capsule at as many as 2 in 5 Americans, and 'as many as' is its ceiling rather than its average.

This describes what you do with each dose form and what its label prints. It is not a ranking, and it says nothing about what any of them does for you; nobody has measured these formats against each other for us. The blend described is an on-market label recorded in NIH's Dietary Supplement Label Database; the panel is what was read, not the marketing copy beside it.

    Questions people actually ask

    Fruiting body or mycelium?
Fruiting body extracts. We are not printing a percentage next to that until the manufacturer confirms one in writing.
    Does it taste of mushroom?
Chocolate first, faintly earthy underneath. That is an honest description rather than a marketing one.
    Is it vegan?
It is vegetarian and free of the FDA top nine allergens. The full other-ingredients list is on this page.

Built around a day. Not a round number.

We grouped tins by when someone might reach for one. Every pick is argued from what is printed on that tin, and every bundle says what we left out.

    • Bundle 1 · three tins

      A long day of classes

An 8am, an afternoon that will not end, and a night you would like to actually sleep through.

      • Energy Strips

Caffeine 50 mg, L-theanine 30 mg, vitamin B12 1000 mcg. Roughly half a cup of coffee's worth of caffeine.

      • Cognitive Relax Strips

L-theanine 50 mg, GABA 25 mg, vitamin B6 6 mg, and no caffeine at all. That is the whole reason it is a different tin from the one above it.

      • Sleep Strips

Melatonin 1 mg, valerian 50 mg, lavender 20 mg, chamomile 10 mg, hibiscus 10 mg. Its lab results are on its page, active by active, with the heavy metals run separately by an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory.

      • Energy Strips

These are our picks, not a protocol. Grouping tins changes nothing about what is in them, and we are not claiming a bundle does anything. We are also too new to know what anyone else buys, so nothing here is ranked.

Energy, Sleep and Cognitive Relax each show up in more than one of these. Two of these days start early and have to end, and the tin with no caffeine in it suits two of the three people. We would rather repeat a tin than invent a difference that is not in it.

Every total above is the tins added up at list price. There is no bundle discount, because there is no bundle discount at checkout either, and a saving we cannot honour is worse than none. Subscribe & Save sits on each tin's own page.
