    What is on the label

    Collagen peptide at one hundred milligrams and vitamin E at six. The label says collagen peptide and nothing more.

    The source has not been confirmed to us, and we are not going to guess at it in public. When we know, this paragraph changes.

    The long version

    Start with the number, because it is the number that decides whether this tin is for you. One hundred milligrams is a tenth of a gram.

    Collagen is normally bought by the scoop, and a scoop is measured in grams. A strip cannot hold a gram of anything. The whole strip, film and flavor included, weighs two hundred and sixty-five milligrams. So if you are buying this to stand in for a tub of powder, it will not, and we would rather lose the sale on this paragraph than have you work it out a month from now.

    What it is instead is a hundred milligrams of collagen peptide and six of vitamin E, both printed as their own amounts, in something you can take on a train with no shaker bottle involved. The vitamin E is the synthetic DL form and the panel says so plainly, which is more than the words “Vitamin E” on their own would tell you.

    We would rather publish a small number with the open questions attached to it than a large one with none.

    What a batch certificate is

    A certificate of analysis is a laboratory's report on one batch: what the label claims, what was measured, and the range it had to fall inside. It covers that batch and no other, which is why the lot code matters. We publish the numbers, not the certificate. The issuer forbids partial reproduction. The disintegration row is one of those laboratory measurements, taken against the specification the certificate states. It is not a reading taken in anyone's mouth: what a strip does on a tongue is the separate thing, and that is the one we describe as about 30 seconds.

    Lot KJL12501, tested by the manufacturer's laboratory. Vitamin E measured 111.7% of its label claim against a specification of not less than 90.0%, with no upper limit. Collagen peptide measured 110.8% against a stated band of 90.0% to 110.0%.

    Collagen peptide ran 110.8%, above the stated range of 90.0% to 110.0%, so that row misses its specification. We hold a batch to its band, so we have asked the manufacturer to re-test it. The same two figures, in the same order, also appear on the Bone Support certificate for two unrelated actives; we have asked for both sets to be re-stated.

    The label says collagen peptide. We have asked; until we get an answer in writing, that is all this page will say.
    Is it from fish?
    We do not know, so we are not printing a source. If it were, it would carry a fish allergen disclosure, and that is not a line to guess at.
    Why publish this at all?
    Because the amount is real and printed, and so is the lab result, including the one row that came back above its stated range, which is marked as such in the lab results on this page. What we do not know is written down too, one answer above.
