I need to open this one with a correction, because an earlier version of this article said something I now believe was wrong.
We used to describe our probiotic strip as an oral-microbiome product — the idea being that because it dissolves under your tongue, it works on the bacterial ecosystem of your mouth and throat rather than your gut. It was a tidy story. It made the format sound clever. It also doesn't hold up, because of what's actually in the strip.
The strain in our Probiotic + Metabolism strip is Bifidobacterium lactis. Bifidobacterium is a gut genus. It's one of the dominant residents of the human large intestine, and everything interesting it does, it does there. It is not an oral-cavity coloniser. Framing it as an oral-microbiome product was a mechanism error, and it's the kind of error a customer can't catch — so it's on me to catch it and say so.
Here's the honest version: our probiotic strip is a gut probiotic. The bacteria need to reach your intestine, exactly like the ones in a capsule do. What the strip changes is the swallowing, not the destination.
The mechanism mismatch most people don't realize
The word "probiotic" gets used as if it's a single category. It isn't. There are distinct mechanisms marketed under the same word, and they target different parts of your physiology:
- Gut probiotics. Live bacteria intended to reach the small or large intestine and interact with the gut ecosystem there. Most capsule probiotics, most yogurt, most kefir, most fermented foods. Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus species dominate this category. Ours belongs here.
- Oral-microbiome probiotics. A genuinely separate and much narrower category, built on strains specifically adapted to live in the mouth and throat — Streptococcus salivarius K12 and M18 are the best-known examples. These are chosen precisely because they colonise oral tissue, which Bifidobacterium lactis does not.
- Postbiotics. Not live bacteria at all — the metabolic byproducts bacteria produce. A real and growing research area, formalised in the ISAPP consensus work, but a different product category from what we sell.
The categories are not interchangeable, and the strain determines which one you're in. You cannot turn a gut strain into an oral-microbiome strain by changing the packaging. That's the mistake we made, and it's the same mistake a lot of "sublingual probiotic" marketing is still making.
What gut probiotics actually do — and what our strain has to survive
The classic probiotic is a gut product. The genera that dominate are Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. The peer-reviewed evidence supports specific strain–condition pairings rather than broad "gut health" claims — general claims for unspecified blends are far weaker than marketing implies. Bifidobacterium lactis itself has a reasonable body of published research behind it as a species; the review literature is a fair starting point if you want to read the primary sources.
The mechanism, plainly: live bacteria have to arrive in the intestine in viable condition. Between the mouth and the intestine sits stomach acid, which is genuinely hostile to bacteria. That's why so many capsule probiotics use enteric coatings — the coating is there to get the payload past the stomach intact.
So the obvious question, and I'd rather ask it myself than have you ask it in a review: a dissolvable strip has no enteric coating. What happens to the bacteria?
The honest answer has three parts.
First, the route is the normal one. The strip dissolves in your mouth, you swallow it in saliva, and it goes to your stomach and then your intestine — the same path a capsule's contents take once the shell opens. The strip is not a shortcut past your digestive system, and I'm not going to tell you it is.
Second, this is why the strip is dosed the way it is. Ours contains 10 billion CFU of Bifidobacterium lactis. Probiotic doses are counted in billions precisely because the industry assumes attrition in transit — that's true of capsules too, enteric coating or not.
Third — and this is the part most brands won't print — I don't have finished-product survival data to show you. I can't tell you what proportion of our CFU count arrives viable in the intestine, because that study hasn't been done on our specific strip. If a competitor quotes you a precise survival percentage for their product, ask them for the study on their finished product, not on the raw strain. Most can't produce one.
If reaching the gut with maximum viable count is your single overriding priority — you've just finished antibiotics, or you're managing a diagnosed gut condition under medical guidance — an enteric-coated capsule is the more conservative choice, and I'd rather tell you that than sell you a strip.
What about the oral microbiome?
The oral microbiome is a real ecosystem and a legitimate research area. It's distinct from your gut microbiome, with different dominant species. Products that target it use strains selected for oral residence — Streptococcus salivarius K12 being the most studied — and they're usually formulated as lozenges designed to be held in the mouth for a long time.
Notice the design logic there: a genuine oral-microbiome product wants long contact with oral tissue. A strip that dissolves in about 30 seconds is engineered for the opposite — quick, clean, gone. Even if we'd used an oral strain, a fast-dissolving film would be a strange delivery choice for that job.
So: we're not an oral-microbiome product, we don't use an oral-microbiome strain, and the format wouldn't suit that purpose anyway. If oral-microbiome support is specifically what you're after, look for a K12 or M18 lozenge from a brand that specialises in it. That's not us.
The polydextrose, and what it's honestly doing
The second ingredient in the strip is polydextrose, 50 mg. It's a soluble fibre that functions as a prebiotic — a substrate that gut bacteria ferment in the colon.
Two honest notes about it.
One: polydextrose is emphatically a gut ingredient. Colonic fermentation is the whole mechanism. It does nothing under your tongue. It has to travel the full length of your digestive tract to reach the bacteria that ferment it. Another reminder that this product's business is downstream, not in your mouth.
Two: 50 mg is a small amount, and I'm not going to inflate it. A meaningful daily fibre intake is measured in grams — typically 25 to 30 of them. 50 mg is a fraction of one percent of that. An earlier version of this article said 1.5 g, which was simply wrong, and I've corrected it. The polydextrose here is a formulation companion to the bacteria, not a fibre supplement. If you want the benefits of dietary fibre, eat vegetables, beans, and whole grains. No strip is going to do that job, and any brand implying otherwise is misleading you.
While I'm correcting things: an earlier version also referred to "metabolic-support cofactors" in this product. There aren't any. The strip contains two things — Bifidobacterium lactis 10B CFU and polydextrose 50 mg. That's the complete list, and "Metabolism" in the product name refers to the metabolic activity of gut bacteria, not to a separate stack of ingredients.
Where the strip format genuinely fits
Having taken away the clever mechanism story, let me give you the real one — which I think is actually more useful.
The reason to choose a probiotic strip is not that it does something a capsule can't. It's that you'll take it.
- Nothing to swallow. Probiotic capsules are often large — they have to hold a big powder payload. If you gag on capsules, that's a hard daily ask. A strip is a film the size of a stamp that's gone in about 30 seconds.
- No water needed, no bottle to carry. A pocket tin holds 30 strips. It travels, it lives in a bag, it doesn't leak.
- No refrigeration anxiety. Many people never quite know whether their probiotic needed to be in the fridge, or how many weeks in a warm cupboard have undone it. A shelf-stable tin removes the guesswork.
- No sugar and no chalk. Mixed berry, sweetened with stevia, monk fruit, and erythritol. No shaker bottle, no aftertaste.
- Every ingredient and dose on the label. Two ingredients, both disclosed, no proprietary blend.
That's an adherence argument, and I've come to think it's the honest core of this whole company. A probiotic you take five days a week beats a technically superior one you abandoned in March. The format isn't the pharmacology — it's the thing that decides whether the pharmacology ever gets a chance.

When a capsule probiotic is the better choice
Specific situations where I'd point you to a capsule instead:
- You've just finished a course of antibiotics. Talk to your prescriber, and look for a product with strain-specific published evidence and an enteric coating.
- You have a diagnosed gut condition — IBS, IBD, or anything under active medical management. Strain specificity matters enormously here, and this is a conversation for your doctor, not a supplement article.
- You want a high-CFU multi-strain formulation. Strips have physical limits on how much they can carry. A capsule holds more.
- You want maximum confidence in gastric survival. Enteric coating is a real technology that does a real job. We don't have it.
- You're immunocompromised, on biologics, or post-transplant. Live-bacteria products need your care team's sign-off, whatever the format.
None of these are situations where I'd argue our strip is the superior product. I'd rather send you to the right shelf than win an order I shouldn't have.

This is why the dose is counted in billions. If maximum gastric survival is your priority, an enteric-coated capsule is the more conservative option, and I'd rather say so plainly.
Will this help with bloating, IBS, or post-antibiotic recovery?
Those are medical questions and I'm not able to make claims about them. If you're managing a diagnosed condition or recovering from antibiotics, talk to your doctor, who may recommend a specific strain at a specific dose with evidence behind that pairing.
Can I take this alongside a capsule probiotic?
Generally there's no problem taking more than one probiotic, but if you're on medication, immunocompromised, or managing a gut condition, check with your prescriber first. If you're already happily taking a capsule that works for you, you don't need ours as well.
The takeaway: our probiotic strip is a gut probiotic that happens not to be a pill. The bacteria go where Bifidobacterium bacteria need to go. The format doesn't change the biology — it changes whether taking it is a chore.
I'd rather publish that than the cleverer story I told before. The cleverer story would have sold better. It also wasn't true, and a supplement company that tells you a nice story about its own mechanism will eventually tell you a nice story about its dosing, its sourcing, and its evidence. I'd rather lose the sentence than start down that road.
