How to Organize Your Supplements
Keep your supplements in one spot, each in its own container with its label, and sort them by when you take them. That is most of the system. The rest is checking labels so you know what you have.
Pick one spot
Scattered bottles are how doses get missed and doubled. Choose one place for every supplement in the house, and put new ones there as they arrive.
One spot, out of reach of children and pets. Store each product as its label says.
If you keep a few things elsewhere, such as at work or in a bag, keep a short list of what is where.
Keep every product in its own container
The label is the most useful thing you own about a supplement. It carries:
- the amount of each active in a serving;
- the directions, including how many servings a day;
- the warnings;
- the lot number and the date to use it by.
So keep each product in the container it came in. If you use a weekly organizer for convenience, fill it from the original containers and keep those containers too, labels and all.
Sort by when you take them
Group products by the point in your own day when you take them, for example the ones you take with breakfast, the ones you take later, and the ones you take only on some days. A shelf with three short rows, or three small baskets, is enough.
Follow each label's directions. If a label says to take a product with food, put it in the group you take with a meal. If a label gives no time, place it where you will remember it.
Check the labels once a month
Set a date and go through every product:
- Use-by dates. Take out anything past its date.
- How much is left. Note what needs reordering before it runs out.
- Overlapping actives. Read the Supplement Facts panels side by side. If the same vitamin or mineral appears on two products, add the amounts together and compare the total with the % Daily Value on the panel. How to read a Supplement Facts panel walks through those figures.
- Directions you have drifted from. Check that you are still taking each one the way its label says.
Keep a short written list
Write down each product's name, the amount per serving, and when you take it. Keep the list beside the products, and a copy on your phone. It makes reordering quick, and it is ready to show a doctor or pharmacist if they ask what you take.
Where a XYNE tin fits
Our strips come thirty to a tin, so a tin takes the space of one small container on the shelf. Each label gives the directions: anytime, up to a maximum of 1 strip a day. Store the tin as its label says, in the same one spot as everything else.
Every active in all eleven formulas, with its amount, is on our ingredients page, and the formulas are on the strips page.
