What saffron has going for it is that the target it's been tested against — the urge to snack when you're not hungry — is exactly the target most people actually care about, and it has a plausible mechanism rather than magic. That's enough for me to formulate with it. It is not enough for me to promise you an outcome. Chromium: the glucose-craving loop

Chromium is the less glamorous half of the stack, and its story is more about a loop than a feeling.

Chromium is an essential trace mineral — the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements lists it as a nutrient your body genuinely needs, involved in how insulin does its job of moving glucose into cells. The reason it shows up in appetite products is the craving side: when blood sugar swings — a fast spike from a refined-carb snack, then the dip that follows — that dip is often experienced as a craving for more of the same. It's a loop. A few small trials, including work by Anton and colleagues in 2008, reported reduced carbohydrate cravings and reduced intake in specific groups taking chromium picolinate. As with saffron, the trials are small and the results mixed rather than emphatic.

Can I just eat saffron in food instead of a supplement?
Culinary saffron is wonderful but the amounts used in cooking are far below the standardized extract doses used in the snacking studies, so you're not really getting the studied input from a paella.
